Louisiana Appraisal New License Requirements
There are three levels of appraisal licensure in the state of Louisiana:
- Real Estate Appraiser Trainee
- Certified Residential Real Property Appraiser
- Certified General Real Property Appraiser
The basic requirements of the Louisiana appraisal licensure process are as follows:
- Be at least 18 years of age or older and have a high school diploma or GED
- Must pass state examination (for Certified levels)
- Submit a criminal background check
- Submit application and pay associated fees
To begin a real estate appraisal career in Louisiana, you must start as a trainee. Louisiana Appraisal Upgrade License Requirements
Before you can move to the certified levels, you must meet the following higher education requirements:
- For Certified Residential level: A minimum of an Associates Degree OR 21 college semester hours in specific subject matters
- For Certified General level: A minimum of a Bachelors Degree OR 30 college semester hours in specific subject matters
If you’re ready to move onto the Certified Residential level, OnCourse Learning has the package just for you! The Upgrade to Licensed Level Package contains the following courses: Residential Market Analysis and Highest and Best Use; Residential Appraiser Site Valuation and Cost Approach; Residential Report Writing and Case Studies; and Residential Sales Comparison and Income Approach. These 4 courses cover 75 of the required additional 125 hours needed to move up to the Certified Residential level. You’ll need 3 more courses plus 2500 hours of experience completed within 30 months to meet the full requirements for the certified residential level.
To move up to the Certified General level, you will need an additional 300 hours of educational credits plus 3000 hours of experience completed within 30 months (including 1500 hours of non-residential appraisals).
Louisiana Appraisal Continuing Education Requirements
All Louisiana appraisal licenses expire biannually on December 31st. To qualify for renewal, 30 hours of continuing education are required (including the 7 hour National USPAP Update).
