Ohio Home Inspection New License Requirements
While Ohio was previously an unregulated state for home inspectors, as of 2019 new licensing laws have been put in place. Those who have been previously practicing home inspections can apply for a “grandfather license” (valid only if certain requirements are met and only until Nov. 1, 2019). All new practicing home inspectors must meet the following new regulations:
- Be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED
- Take 80 hours of approved education plus 40 hours of field experience
- Pass the NHIE exam
- Obtain general liability insurance ($100,000/$300,000 aggregate)
- Complete a full background check and fingerprinting
- Fill out the application
