Texas Home Inspection New License Requirements
Anyone practicing a career in home inspection in the state of Texas must be licensed. The following steps must be completed to obtain a license:
- Must be at least 18 years of age and a legal citizen of the United States
- Possess a character of honesty, integrity, and trustworthiness
- Complete 394 hours of classroom education - online courses are not permitted
- Complete 40 hours of inspections and field training
- Pass the NHIE exam and Texas specific exam
- Obtain the following insurance requirements: Liability insurance - a minimum of $100,000 per occurrence; an aggregate annual total of a minimum of $100,000
- Complete fingerprinting and background check
- Submit application and pay $130 fee

Texas Home Inspection Exam Prep Requirements

Texas Home Inspection Continuing Education Requirements
Texas home inspection licenses expire every two years on their date of original issuance. During this two year renewal period, licensees must complete 32 hours of continuing education (16 must be completed in the first year of the renewal period). These 32 hours must include the 4 hour Standards of Practice Review course and a 4 hour Inspector Legal & Ethics course. Both of the required 4 hour courses can be found on OnCourse Learning.
